you've seen on Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam, at venues
like The Nuyorican Poets Café, the Bowery Poetry Bar, Bar 13, and
more! and that's not all! A portion of the proceeds for this special
event will go to Body Positive, a nonprofit community service

Based in the heart of Brooklyn, Smokin' Word Production is a non-profit
company of actors, writers, musicians, recording artists,
performance poets, and visual artists, dedicated to entertaining and
educating the public with quality works through the facilitation of
live performance, recorded works, and published materials. You may
have already seen Smokin' Word artists and productions in festivals
like The NYC Hip-Hop Theatre Festival and the Chashama Oasis
Festival, or in the performances of critically acclaimed works like
Claudia Alick's Six Hits, an evening of short works including the
controversial "Sick Rhymes," hailed as "intensely moving"
and "powerful" by Backstage.com. You can see Six Hits again when an
extended version premieres in The Downtown Urban Theatre Festival in
the spring of 2004.
