SMOKIN' WORD is a New York based non-profit company focused on helping to build the new genre of hip-hop and spoken word theatre through the production of plays, chap books, CD's and other live events. Because we believe that the more you give the more you get our ongoing policy is to donate at least a portion if not all profits to non-profit organizations that help the community such as BodyPositive, The Police Athletic Leauge and others. Since 2002 the company has produced events at venues such as The Cherry Lane, LaMama ETC, PS 122. We've collaborated on projects with The Hip-hop Theatre Festival, Nuyorican Poets cafe, Arcos Communications, and others. Our on going work is only getting hotter. We are always on the look out for new talent and energy. If you are a DJ, choreographer, writer, musician, visual artist, journalist, educator, or performer we have a place for you. We produce many events and developmental initiatives. We always got somethin poppin and chances are there's a place for you.
