Smokin' Wordshop was begun in September of 2003 to gather MC and poet playwrights to create new work by teaching each other with hip-hop, spoken word and other writing exersizes. The group used freestyle, visual art, and writing exersizes that covered eveything from dialouge, action, throughline, conflict, poetry devices, and current events. They met weekly in Yolanda Wilkinsons kitchen in the heart of Harlem supporting each others projects, and discussing subjects such as as balancing your art and work, writers block, professional formatting, submitting your play to contests, applying for grants, and technology. WordShop produced two Script This! events and several plays developed by the group were produced soon after them.
